Lisbon produces different
feelings on me, it was the first European city I stepped (airport),
and I will take forever wtih me the image of that morning of the
25th, the city lights reflected on the Tejo river at dawn .
When
returning I felt a great excitement: not only due of being with my
friends, but because we landed safely (all passengers applauded for
arriving alive, you can have an idea of how was the flight).
At
the transport from the airport to the hotel, I had a feeling I cannot explain. Seeing the streets, the sidewalks: it was like being in
Brazil, but in Europe. I was so happy to recognize institutions and
banks alike, signs written in my own language, it really made me happy.
Anyway, as
we arrived at night, we decided to walk around downtown and pick a
place to eat (no comments, after six months I ate a wonderful steak
with rice and beans, what a great moment). There we already talked
with some Portugueses and we won a piece of cake from a lady (it was
her birthday).
On the next day, we went to visit the city and the
Tower of Belém. We ate our sandwiches in a park in front of the
Jeronimos Monastery. Despite the wind and that we got wet because of
the fountain, we had a great time. It was the first official day of
travel and those girls had already become my family.
After
lunch time, we went to the museum of the Navy and we have discovered
the vastness of lands conquered by the Portuguese, and also the
instruments available at the time: hard to believe that the vessels
succeeded. Before returning to Lisbon, we decided to stimulate the
production of vitamin D and enjoy the sun (nonexistent at Belgian
land).
Wednesday
morning we had a guided tour, I was impressed: our first trip option
was Greece, and suddenly, the white buildings contrasting with the
blue of the water we found there too.
Thursday
we went to the town of Sintra. Arriving at the train station, we
bought a bus ticket that would lead us to the castle and the palace.
The Moorish Castle is a fortification constructed in the XX
century, after the Muslim conquest of the Iberian Peninsula.
Honestly, I fell in love with this place, it gave a magnificent view
of the city and it looked like those ones in fairy-tales.
Our
next destination was the Pena Palace. It is a palace that was built
in 1838 by orders of the King Ferdinand II, I seemed to be in the
land of Aladdin.
At
night at the hostel, we decided to go out all together in Bairro Alto,
we were 6 girls and we ended up in 15 persons (not all are pictured), so
good!
Do you know when you go to household appliances stores
and on their televisions appears beautiful landscapes of seagulls flying
over the blue water and rocky bottom? It was the same thing, but in
true 3D, accompanied by the smell and the wind. For me, it was the
coolest part of the trip. In the rocks we found dinosaur footprints,
archaeological remnants of different compounds from different eras
that formed distinct colors, and deserted beaches. Hard to explain,
not even pictures could.
And on our last night we went to Bairro Alto with the people we met in
the hostel. It is a pity that this time we did not take pictures.
On Saturday we made our bags, we walked one last time through the city, we ate at a restaurant in the square and then we went away. The
end of the trip left me nostalgic, but happy to have lived it all and
for still having four months alongside these wonderful girls, that
became more than important to me.
