Embarque Neste Sonho: Grand Place

Morar na Europa está sendo de longe a coisa mais legal que já aconteceu em minha vida, e agradeço àquelas pessoas que me indicaram a Bélgica, que país encantador!
Em 3 semanas aqui, já devo ter ido mais de dez vezes na Grand Place e nunca me canso. Além de bela, inspira história e cultura.

Nesta charmosa praça, é possível encontrar a presença de diferentes estilos arquitetônicos. Isso se deve aos bombardeios franceses em 1695 que destruíram boa parte de sua estrutura, deixando somente algumas fachadas. Alguns anos depois, foi reconstruída no estilo renascentista Flamengo, e em 1873 foi construída a Casa do Rei em estilo neo-gótico.

O prédio mais antigo (a Câmara Municipal) levou 58 anos para ser construído (1401-1459), e é considerado o edifício cívico mais belo da Bélgica. Em 1523 os primeiros mártires protestantes foram ali queimados pela inquisição espanhola.

Sendo sede de vários festivais musicais e gastronômicos, a Grand Place também conta com um mercado de flores pela manhã, e durante o mês de agosto, de dois em dois anos, ela é coberta por um tapete floral.

De noite, a praça é magicamente iluminada e ganha um ar boêmio, cercada por bares. É costume as pessoas sentarem-se no chão em meio aos monumentos para desfrutar das famosas cervejas belgas e da companhia dos amigos. Impossível não ser contagiado por essa atmosfera de “Bonheur”.

Living in Europe is being the most incredible thing that has ever happened to my life, and I thank all of those people who have said to me that I should choose Belgium, what an enchanting country!

In 3 weeks here I already should have gone more than ten times in the “Grand Place” and I never get bored. Besides of its beauty, it inspires history and culture.

In this charming place, it’s possible to find the presence of different architectonic styles. This is due to French bombings in 1695 that had destroyed great part of its structure, leaving only some facades. Years later it has been rebuilt in the Flemish Renaissance Style, and, in 1872, the King’s House has been built in the Neo-Gothic Style.

The oldest building (Town Hall) took 58 years to be built (1401-1459) and it’s considered as the most beautiful structure in Belgium. In 1523 the first Protestant martyrs were burned there by the Spanish Inquisition.

Place where great music and gastronomic festivals happens, the “Grand Place” also counts with a flower market every morning , and from two in two years, in august it is covered by a floral carpet.

At night, the square is magically lightened and it becomes a bohemian place, surrounded by restaurants. It’s common to see people sited on the floor in the middle of the buildings to enjoy the famous Belgian’s Beers and also the company of their friends. Impossible not be touched by this “Bonheur” atmosphere.
